| Have you ever gotten paint on your clothes? |

May 8, 2012 by Michele Theberge 8 Comments

Ever gotten paint on a favorite item of clothing, carpet of piece of furniture?

This is hands-down my most popular video on youtube:

This method works for the toughest dried on acrylic paints and mediums as well as oil paints AND it’s a non-toxic, biodegradable product.

Another tip – my husband and I have restored 3 different hundred + year-old homes and I have used this product to safely soak layers and layers of the paint off of intricate hardware.

Andrew Lenz owner of Lenz Arts in Santa Cruz claims it “saved his marriage” after he tracked tar in the house and nothing else he tried would remove it from the carpet.

Hope this helps!

Brilliant! Acrylic paint has always been the kiss of death for anything, I wonder if they sell it by the gallon, lol? Thank you for the tip!

Caroline! You are going to LOVE this stuff. I always take a little bottle with me when I travel. It has saved so many of my “teaching clothes.” 🙂

Thanks so much for this ~ it’s saved several tops where I managed to dip the sleeves in paint! Keep up the good work!

Michele, it sounds like you’ve tried this lots of times, so I’m wondering if you have any experience with old stains? The description on the bottle of Winsor & Newton says it’s effective “within minutes for oil and hours for acrylic”. I’ve got a pair of jeans with a couple spots of oil paint, but I didn’t know what to do with them at the time so I just left it. The paint has been on there for (ahem) about a year. Any use even bothering to try this? Any tips for an old stain (and I’m pretty sure this one’s gone through the dryer too, so they’re probably a lost cause, huh?)

      Hi Tobi,

I think the time frames they are talking about are how long it takes for the Brush Cleaner to act upon the paint and start breaking it down. I would say you have a very good chance of getting the paint of your jeans. I would go for it! Just soak the stain like you seem me doing in the video. Yes, the dryer can make the stains set more but this stuff has been amazingly effective for me. I would love to know how it goes if you try it!! Please share your results here.
